Image Secondary School

In our time here in Iringa, we have visited Image Secondary School three times.  Image Secondary School  prides itself in being the most successful Lutheran secondary school in Iringa Diocese.  Image has an enrollment of 700 students. Bega kwa Bega provides scholarships to 140 students.  Headmaster Ndogo at Image has mentored Headmaster Sebastian at Lutangilo, and Headmaster Shadrack Nyanlingo at Pommern.  All three of these headmasters are enthusiastic advocates for their schools.  All three have gymnastic teams and the school spirit is high.  Each school has its own school song and each song is full of promise and hope for a brighter future.

These students were finishing the Form VI National Examination.

There was a lot of tension in the air during one visit because national exams were underway.  A line was drawn in the sand on the main path through campus indicating that people should not pass beyond that point because exams were in session.  This year the Form IV national exam was particularly hard; only 40% of the students who sat for exam passed.  This is particularly devastating for our scholarship students because failure means their scholarship is lost.

Schooling for scholarship students is very special gift.  It provides them with a pathway to a life with a much brighter future and in many cases a life of service to their families, their villages, and their country.
